trying to find the right photographer can be one of the most overwhelming decisions to make for your wedding. and it's one of the few things that lasts forever. besides your wedding rings and the eternal love you'll share as husband and wife, the photography is just as permanent. you only have one chance to capture the beautiful memories of your wedding - and the rest of your life to relive them through the pictures. it's one of the most cherished days of your life, so make it count. if there is one part of a wedding that is worthy of a splurge, it is the photographer! and we know that these OC-based photographers have got their craft down to a science, making wedding photography an art form that blows the traditional aesthetic of portraiture to pieces - making them worth every penny!
I have either worked with these photographers personally or followed their work long enough that I am dying to find a reason to work with them! they have no idea they are being featured and haven't paid to be rated (like photographers on theknot.com and basically every other wedding related website out there). I am taking time out of my day to share their work because I am honestly amazed at each of their talents. these are by far some of the most incredible artists and amazing people.
so here is how I know of each of them. when we got married in 2009, Matthew Morgan was on our 'approved vendors list' for the venue we had signed. his work is beautiful, very candid with the crisp clean modern look my husband and I both wanted. we wanted our photographs to capture the truth of that day and not the forced smiles of posed portraiture that every other photographer on that list seemed to lean towards. we met with him, loved him, and of course he was already booked for our date. we asked Matthew if he could refer someone that had a style similar to his and he was gracious enough to recommend Hugh Forte - which I am forever grateful for. We met with Hugh and immediately fell in love with his work. He shot our wedding and to this day if I had it to do all over again I would pay him double what we did back then, without even the slightest hesitation. which is about the highest compliment I can give him because I tend to be a very budget-based spender and parting with that kind of money would normally make me sick to my stomach.
Nick Radford and Kristin Rogers are newer additions to my list of favorites. I had close friends that recommended I follow them on Instagram, knowing that I would love their work. Beyond their incredible wedding portfolios, these two make everyday an art. I am constantly inspired by the beauty they find in the quiet everyday moments of life shared with loved ones. I think it is this perspective of taking the beauty of everyday that makes their wedding photography that much more exceptional. I seriously suggest you follow them on Instagram too @_nickradford and @kristinrogers.
Jenavieve Belair is somewhat of a new-kid-on-the-block treasure. When we booked Hugh for our wedding I distinctly remember Matthew having said 'book him while you can get him, because in the next 5 years that kid is going to be huge.' Matthew was right. and now Jenavieve is that girl. get her while you can because she is a phenomenal talent and will be huge in the near future. I have worked with her several times over the last 2 years and am amazed at how she just keeps pushing herself and developing her incredible craft - and does it all with a humble and grateful heart.
bottom line, any one of these photographers is amazing. if they're available for your date and work with your budget you could pick any one of their names out of a hat and I know you'd be happy with the end result. I can say this with the utmost confidence because every one of these people was meant to be doing exactly what they are doing. they were created with a gift for vision. they have a passion for what they do that cannot be tamed. and I hope this blog post has done them even the slightest justice.
